Ethiopia is known as the birthplace of coffee, which makes it pretty special. The climate and growing conditions are ideal and many of the varieties are descendants of the original cultivar, giving them an exalted status among coffee enthusiasts. We’ve been sourcing from Ethiopia since 2011 and are striving to build strong relationships with many of its amazing coffee producers.
Sourcing from and traveling to Ethiopia is no walk in the park, especially when faced with the formidable challenges around navigating politics and poor infrastructure. Despite the obstacles, there is truly an abundance of quality coffee available and we’ve always managed to find some excellent offerings. Like in other coffee origins, our goal is to do collaborative work within Ethiopia but this isn’t always possible due to complications like politics, financing, logistics or lack of education. While we are working at developing essential relationships, we continue to find incredible potential in the country in coffees through established importer/exporters.
