Sebastian co-founded P&S in 2007, fueled by a love of both coffee and entrepreneurship. Sebastian collaborates with Phil on most duties, but focuses on directing the cafes, traveling to buy green coffee in Central and South America, and managing company finances. Sebastian and his wife, Emily, have three energetic children: Annie, Leo, and Casper.
Phil co-founded P&S in 2007, and his obsession from the beginning has been improving coffee quality from seed to cup. Leveraging his engineering past, he’s written custom roasting control software and modified numerous pieces of coffee making equipment. Among his duties, he manages the roasting operation and travels to Africa to buy green coffee. His wife, Jenna, and three young children support him every step of the way.
Rob joined P&S in 2009. He directs our wholesale business, leading an incredible and dynamic team to service our customers across Canada and the US. He’s known for his love of debate, economics, and the San Antonio Spurs. Also, he will never turn down a push-up challenge.
Vanessa has been with Phil & Sebastian since 2012 and is based out of Calgary, AB. She is the connecting piece between our team and our wholesale customers and makes sure everything is running smoothly. Off the clock, she is an avid photographer and home cook.
Chris is based out of Toronto, ON and works closely with our wholesale customers in Ontario and Quebec. His coffee resume is impressive – Chris placed 2nd place at the 2015 Canadian Barista Championships, and is the 2014 Canadian Latte Art Champion.
Nic is based in Vancouver, BC, and loves working with our wholesale clients along the West Coast. He has an extensive coffee resume, and enjoys the simple life revolving around his two passions: coffee and cycling.
Josie brings 6 years of creative event production to the table – a table she stocks with the meticulously-tabbed Moleskines and colour-coordinated highlighters she uses to keep her diverse portfolio organized. Youngest (and tallest) of four, Josie thrives in bustling rooms full of people and lives for passionate story telling.
Mario works with our wholesale team, helping to grow our office service in Calgary. Hailing from Argentina, Mario loves tango and sipping Malbec.
Sam wears many hats, but is our Customer Service Champion for all things wholesale. He hails from a huge, diverse family, so he is right at home in the oft-busy environment at our Roasterie. In his free time you can catch him singing and performing around Calgary or riding his bike.
Jeff went from barista to Head Roaster. He spends his time roasting and cupping. He’s also good with numbers and is starting to call on his mathematics background for analyzing roast profiles. Jeff enjoys peachy Yirg’s and balanced ales.
Alison joined the P&S team in 2013. She is a passionate Drake fan, enjoys candlelight and red wine.
David, aka DK, aka DK43, joined Phil & Sebastian in March 2013. He’s an integral part of the roasting team, and also oversees quality control for all of our espressos. David also placed 2nd in the 2017 Canadian Taster’s Cup, and 5th in the 2015 Canadian Barista Championships!
Hailing from Hamilton, Ontario, Leslie is the mastermind behind all our delicious food and pastries. Outside the kitchen, she is a musician, artist, sister, and proud auntie. Thanks to Phil & Sebastian, she now loves coffee, too.
Shannon’s the office manager who makes everything run smoothly. When she needs to relax, she laces up her sneakers for a run and loves spending time with her husband, Don and their dog, Jersey.
Pam is an administrative extraordinaire and an integral part of our office team. She speaks fluent Greek and, surprisingly, doesn’t like olives.
Karine is one of our original P&S team members, working with us since 2008. From barista, to Head Trainer, to Barista Competition Coach, to Regional & National Barista Competition Judge, Karine uses her mad skills as Quality Director to ensure quality and consistency across our cafes. Janet (Miss Jackson, if you’re nasty) and pork dumplings make her weak in the knees.
Javaid is the head trainer at Phil & Sebastian, and the 2017 Canadian Brewer’s Cup Champion. His activities as an avid foodie, reader, music producer and taster of all things often blur the lines between work and play, making his passion that much more apparent.
Jonathan has been with us since the beginning. He’s the reason it’s called Phil & Sebastian and not Ooze Espresso Bar or one of the many other terrible names originally thrown around. He’s the graphic designer responsible for all P&S branding including packaging, cups, and this website.
Joe is our equipment manager which basically means he makes sure everything is working and is great at fixing things. He likes to spend time at home with his daughter, Eslin.
Ricardo is the friendly face that delivers coffee and supplies to our wholesale customers. He’s Colombian, and is happy to discuss soccer with you any time.
You’ll most likely catch Albert on bar at any of our cafes, or as a friendly face at our mobile events. Watch out, he pours some mean latte art. He also plays a crucial role in maintaining our equipment in-house.
Alex is the man with the (roast) plan. He ensures our operations run smoothly day-to-day at the Roasterie. He’s also a lot like Garfield — hates Mondays, rain, and loves lasagne.
Madelyn’s our logistics associate. What-the-what is that? It’s important and includes coffee bagging, labelling, preparing orders and keeping the warehouse and front office clean.
Andrew is mainly here to talk soccer with Ricardo, Drake with Alison, and world relations with David Kim.
Christopher shares his lively Aussie spirit with customers and staff alike. You can most frequently hear him proclaiming “BOOM SHAKALAKA!” or “how ya doin? Talk to me!”
Kelly has been with P&S since 2015 and now manages the team at Chinook. She’s passionate about learning, teaching and connecting with customers. When not at the cafe Kelly is either teaching Irish dancing or reading a good book.
Jacquot’s been working with Phil & Sebastian for over five years. When he’s not behind the bar, you’ll find Jacquot darting between cafes. He’s an avid outdoor enthusiast, going to the mountains as much as possible for hiking and climbing.
Eric is heading the team at our newest location, Stephen Ave., in downtown Calgary. People seem to like him because he is polite and rarely late. He likes to eat ice cream and really enjoys a nice pair of slacks.
